Since the D&I process was developed for the beverage can industry in the 1960’s, the technology has evolved to where it has captured nearly 100% of the global beverage market (for cans) and for nearly all large volume food applications as well as for some limited aerosol applications. The primary advantages of the D&I process are its ability to work the metal in the most efficient manner to meet the product requirements and to do so in a fully integrated process, starting with base metals such as steel or aluminum, and ending with a finished can. This makes the process very efficient from both a production and cost perspective. Up until now, the downside of the D&I process is that it has compromised flexibility for speed and the scale of production usually only applies to volumes of more than 500 million units annually.
Omnitech has developed and introduced a new small scale production line that maintains the aspect of material and process optimization provided by D&I, in a package that is truly scaleable and flexible for a wide range of applications. This new and innovative production line is called MicroFlex™ and is now available to the global marketplace with the first system implemented in a partnership with Kian Joo Can Factory Berhad, in Malaysia.
